A nice surprise–promoting books on TV!
Did anyone else catch the 2-hour season premiere of Bones last night? So great. Love that show. Like many really formulaic shows, there’s only so much they could focus on past issues. The fact that they couldn’t dwell on the fact that Brennan’s previous assistant turned out to be a murderer is unfortunate, but that’s how it goes, I suppose. I get frustrated by the lack of depth sometimes when I watch House too–also very formulaic. Oh well, it makes up for that in other ways–both shows do.
I was also very pleased to see that they promoted Kathy Reich’s new book Devil Bones in a nice fancy ad at the end of the show. I talked about her new book in a previous post. I’m definitely excited to start following this series. And I truly will, as soon as I finish David Sedaris’s When You are Engulfed in Flames. I’m loving it, but it takes me forever to get through it because my time to read for pleasure is really diminished. I’ve been really focused on my move to Guilford, Connecticut (in 9 days!), but soon I’ll be able to sort my time out a little better.
In any case, I thought it was actually a little funny to see an ad for Reichs’s book on TV. I mean, if you’re reading books, you’ll watch less TV, right? I’m a walking example that it isn’t true, and of course, if you read the books you’ll be more likely to watch the show. It’s funny though because I always think of TV and books as opposing media–yet I love them both.

Yeah, I hear you on the formulaic design of tv shows, but the glory of House is Laurie. Hey, great quote, it even rhymes! Well, like I always say, lately anyway, Obama fo yo Mama.
I didn’t make it to the end of Bones last night.. just wasn’t grabbing my attention.
Long day/week
Brennan’s assistant a murderer? HUH? I haven’t seen that. Which series are you just starting?
Love Kathy Reich’s books!
Terry, totally with you about Hugh Laurie being “House”. I’m a Brit so am familiar with his other work and it really did nothing for me, but I adore him in his House role.
Hi Katieanne,
The new season just started (season 4). Sounds like you’re in the UK in which case it might not have started the same time. (Although incidentally the season premiere takes place in the UK…) We found out that Brennan’s assistant, Dr. Addy, is a murderer in the last ep of season 3. Now I feel bad… I probably just spoiled it for you.
